WW1 Started with a a group of Serbian nationalists that wanted to blow up the Archduke Franz Ferdinand who was the heir to the Austrian Hungarian thrown. They failed their task and gave up. Later the driver of the car took the wrong turn and went by one of the assassins. He then shot Franz Ferdinand and his wife. Austria Hungary blamed Serbia and went to war with them. Russia was guaranteeing Serbia and had a pact with France. Austria Hungary also had a pact with the German Empire. July 28 1914, Austria Hungary declared war against Serbia. July 1 1914, Russia entered the war. Germany and France also entered the war on July 1 1914. The easiest way the Germans could get to Paris was by going through Belgium. August 4 1914 The Germans went through Belgium and the British guaranteed Belgium and declared war on the Germans and its allies. Everyone thought the war would be less then a year. It lasted for 4 harsh years. In November the Ottoman Empire joined the war on the Central Powers.
